ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports’ Pinoy Pride XI will be featuring the undefeated OPBF Minimumweight Champion Merlito “Tiger” Sabillo who is set to face off against Indonesia Boxing Commission Minimumweight Champion Sofyan Effendi in the event that will feature Milan “El Metodico” Melindo.

The Sabillo-Effendi match is an 8-round ring battle set for January 28, 2012 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Sabillo started his professional boxing career in 2008 and earned the Philippines GAB Minimumweight Championship upon bagging his twelfth straight victory. He defeated Jetly Purisima.

Sabillo held on to the title for a year until he dominated the well-experienced Tejares Singwancha for the title of being the OPBF Minimumweight champion. This happened on the ninth installment of the Pinoy Pride boxing mega-series, which had, for the main event, Donnie “Ahas” Nietes challenging then-champion Ramon “Principe” Garcia for his WBO World Junior Flyweight Championship.

After this most recent achievement, the Bacolod-based boxer is officially a part of ALA Promotions’ roster of fighters along with recently-crowned OPBF Light Welterweight Champion Romeo “Jako” Jakosalem and Philippines GAB Flyweight Champion Arthur “El Matador” Villanueva to mention a few.

Sabillo will be a fighter to watch out for, as he will be more active in 2012, as part of ALA Promotions’ thrust to feature top Filipino fighters in the world stage.

The highly-successful boxing mega-series presented by ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports ended 2011 with Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista’s slam-bang performance that got fight fans at the Hoops Dome on the edge of their seats the whole six (out of twelve) rounds of boxing for the IBF International Featherweight Championship.

Throughout the fight, Bautista showed that his boxing skill has improved, and his skillful victory against Miguel Angel Mendoza, a fighter considered as an unstoppable knockout artist from Mexico, now catapulted him even closer to the World Championship.

On January 28, 2012, ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports’ Pinoy Pride series will be featuring another fighter also inches away from the World Championship title: Milan “El Metodico” Melindo, the reigning WBO Intercontinental Flyweight Champion also highly recognized by the four major boxing organizations, as he is rated #6 by the WBC, #10 by the WBA, #12 by the IBF, and #3 by the WBO.

He will be fighting at the prestigious Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, the same place where Melindo made history by defeating high-caliber fighters– former IBF Minimumweight Champion Muhammad “The Rock Breaker” Rachman, former IBF Light Flyweight Champion Carlos Tamara, Rosendo Vega, and three-time World Title contender Francisco “Chiquita” Rosas.

An outstanding performance by Melindo in this next outing may bring him further up the rankings ladder and may give him the right to contend for a World Championship title sooner.

Other features in the eleventh edition of Pinoy Pride are undefeated WBO Oriental Featherweight Champion Lorenzo “Thunderbolt” Villanueva and OPBF Minimumweight Champion Merlito “Tiger” Sabillo, whose outstanding performance against Tejares Singwancha earned him the said regional title.

ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports’ Pinoy Pride X, the tenth installment of the boxing mega-series, features some of the most promising fighters pitted against high-caliber opponents from different parts of the world. One of them is Romeo “Jako” Jakosalem, who recently signed up with ALA Promotions for his future fights.

The 26-year-old fighter from Davao City will be back in the ring five months after gaining the Philippines Light Welterweight title. He now aspires to set a new achievement under his record: the OPBF Light Welterweight Championship. To obtain it, he will go up against the reigning Korean Light Welterweight Champion named Pan Soo Kim.

Kim was once a challenger to the former OPBF Light Welterweight Champion Motoki Sasaki before the latter vacated it in favor of a world championship.

This ring battle between two national champions will be Jakosalem’s first fight since signing up with ALA Promotions again. An impressive performance in the ring will catapult not only the Filipino prospect’s ratings, but will also be enough reason for ALA Promotions to make him more active beginning 2012, as part of the company’s plans to feature more highly-ranked Filipino fighters in the national and international scenes.

Pinoy Pride X, set for December 10, 2011 at the Hoops Dome, Lapu-Lapu City, is currently foreseen as an exciting bout by boxing fans, and it is for this reason that the country’s top brands like Cobra Tunay
na Lakas Energy Drink, Summit Natural Drinking Water, SM Super Malls, KIA Motors Cebu, Radisson Blu Hotel, EGI Resort and Hotel, Harold’s Hotel, Meal Time Food Factory, as well as Pacific Mall Mandaue, MAYA Mexican Restaurant, MOOON Café and ABACA Resort have partnered with ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports in bringing world-class boxing matches to the world.

The Jakosalem – Kim bout is an undercard match in Pinoy Pride X and is one of two regional championship fights in the said card, the other being the main event clash between Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista and Miguel Angel Mendoza who is coming in undefeated with 17 wins and 17 KO’s for the IBF International Featherweight Championship.
