Pinoy Pride 9 Tonight

The first world championship boxing match in Bacolod happens tonight. Hometown hero Donnie “Ahas” Nietes will be facing Ramon “Principe” Garcia for the WBO World Light Flyweight title.

Four years ago, he won the WBO World Minimumweight title by defeating Pornsawan Porpramook. And after four years of defending it from tough opponents like Erik Ramirez, Manuel Vargas, and Mario Rodriguez, he moved up on weight and made his debut in the Light Flyweight division by facing Armando Vasquez.

Nietes knocked out Vasquez early in the first round.

Ramon “Principe” Garcia will be fighting out of the Philippines for the first time to defend his title, which he holds for nearly six months now.

The 22-year old champion from Cebu City has just come out of a technical decision victory against Tyson Cave of Canada. This will be his third defense of the crown.

“Prince”Albert Pagara will be facing a foreign opponent in Shaabani Madilu months after his debut since he decided to step in for Arthur Villanueva. The younger brother of Filipino prospect Jason “El Niño” Pagara boasts an undefeated record of 7 wins with 6 by way of knockout.
