Pinoy Pride 9, Donnie “Ahas” Nietes Primer on Studio 23 This Sunday

As the countdown to the highly anticipated historic event in the Philippines to
Promotions’ partner and the Philippines biggest television network ABS CBN will
be showcasing a primer on former Minimumweight World Champion Donnie “Ahas
Nietes on Sunday October 2, 2011 at 3:30 PM on Studio 23.

This two-hour special will focus on the journey of the Murcia, Negros Occidental
native Nietes’ life inside and outside of the ring and his preparation for his quest
for a second division world title challenge against reining world light flyweight
champion Ramon Garcia of Mexico on October 8, 2011 at the University of Saint La
Salle Bacolod City, Philippines.

Nietes is in the top five minimumweight champions of all time as published in
Boxing’s Ultimate List written by credible boxing scribes Bert Sugar and Teddy
Atlas. “Ahas” will join the list of Filipino ring greats with multiple division world
titles Gabriel “Flash” Elorde, Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire, Jr., Gerry
Penalosa, and Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr. should he come out victorious in this title challenge.

The Filipino Nietes is considered to be the Philippines second longest reigning
world champion next to the great “Flash” Elorde having held his title for four years.
He will have a chance to continue to break Elorde’s record of seven years as world
champion if he wins against Garcia.

Donnie Nietes has defended his Minimumweight World title 4 times. Three of those
victories were over tough and top Mexican names in the division at their home
country, a feat that has never been done by any Fiipino Boxer.

So much demand for PINOY PRIDE 9 has been experienced now that ALA
Promotions has partnered with the country’s biggest cable group Sky Cable

mainstream market as it constantly rates in the double figures in national television ratings,

in Mindanao alone is very encouraging. The PPV move is one way of thanking the
boxing fans of Cebu for their loyalty to our events and the sport itself. We are proud
and excited with this recent major development.” Added the ALA Promotions CEO.
